MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

ORDINARY MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the Masterton Borough Council was held last evening, there being present:—The Mayor (Mr J. M. Coradine), and Crs J. H. Pauling, J. Elliott, F. W. Temple, A. Haughey, W. Morris, W. Pragnell, J. C. Ewington, J. Prentiie and J. Yarr. The amounts owing to the various property-owners whose land was taken for the widening of Park Street, were passed for payment. In addition i*; was resolved to pay £lO to Mr A. Hoar as compensation shed which had been demolished in connection with tho widening of the street. It was resolved to accept the offer of Mr J. O'Meara (£l6 10s) as payment for the betterment of his property in connection with the widening of Bannister Street. A letter was received from Messrs Bunny and Dolan stating that the contract of Messrs McMullcn Bros, in Bunny's road would be proceeded with, on terms arranged by the Mayor and Cr Haughey, who were appointed a committee by the Council to act in the matter. The Mayor explained that it had been decided to pay Messrs McMullcn Bros, an additional £3O over and above the original contract price. Mr G. W. Sellar applied to have his section in Columba Koad connected with the drainage system. The application was referred to the Works Committee. The recommendation of the Works Committee to carry the drainage pipes from the proposed swimming baths across Dixon Street, and through the A. and P. Association's grounds, was discusssd. It was originally intended to wait on the A. and P. Association for permission to carry the pipes across their grounds," but this idea was abandoned when Cr Pauling mentioned that he had been informed by some of the officials of the A. and P. Association that the Association intended at some future date to cut up the north ' end of their grounds for building allotments, and they would not care to have pipes runningthrough that portion of the grounds. It was considered that a good fall for the drainage pipes could be obtained along Dixon Street,"and it was eventually decided/ to take the pipes along that street. It was also resolved to prepare specifications and call tenders for constructing the baths at once.
