WIDENING OF KURIPUNI STREET.
The widening of Kuripuni Street occupied the attention of the Masterton Borough Council for a short period last evening. Crs Morris and Pauling, who were deputed by the Council to wait on the property owners in the street, submitted a detailed list of the conditions under which each property owner would give his land and move fcack his house. Cr Pauling said he considered that it would be too expensive for tho Council to widen the street to a full chain considering the amount of traffic there was in ths street. To widen the street to a full chain would cost about £7OO, because there were only about two houses that would not have to be shifted back, whereas there was only £SOO allocated on the loan schedule for the work. He considered that threequarters of a chain would be a sufficient width for the street for some time to come. The Mayor acreed that a chain width was too much at present. At -any rate, if'the work cost more than £SOO he would oppose it. , Cr Temple considered that there were more important works in the borough that the Couicil should carry out. Matters relating to the financial position were then discussed, and eventually the Mayor, Crs Yarr, P.wington and Temple were appointed a committee to prepare a report on V:,q subject and elucidate the diffio.lty which appears to exist.
