LAND AND INCOME TAX BILL.
(By Telegraph—Parliamentary Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, October 1. In tha House this afternoon the Land and Income Tax Bill was further considered in Committee. The Premier spaced that he would move an amendment in clause 16 (requiring 15 per cent, of the purchase money to be paid before a vendor could be relieved of his liability to pay the graduated tax) to provide that the matter may be left irf4fee hands of the Commissioner of TaXPS to decide whether a sale is bona fide or not. So long as there was no attempt to evade the tax the Commissioner could grant exemption. As regards making the clause retrospective the Premier stated that he was willing to limit the operation of the clause to transactions during the past five years. After much discussion Mr B. W, Alison moved an amendment to the clause to confine the operations to transactions taking place after th& Act had been passed. This was being discussed when the House rose, for ths' dinner adjournment. ' r ~-" ' .
In the House in the evening the discussion was continued on clause 16, and Mr Alison's amendment therelo. Just before the supper adjournment the amendment was negatived by 41 votes to 18.
