DROWNING FATALITY.

PALMERSTON N., Sept. 30,
During the recent' flood in the Manawatu River a man named Bell was drowned near Hennesay's Mill, at the Oroua Bridge. Bell and a mate were crossing the river in-a boat, on their way to the town, when the boat was upset and the occupants were thrown into the water. Neither could swim, and Bell was drowned. His mate clutched the boat, and drifted ashore after some time.. Owing to thS Hood, dragging operations were impossible, and the "body has not been recovered.
