Novakovico, the editor of an anti-regicide journal at Belgrade, and an anti-regicide officer, who have been imprisoned for a long time on a minor charge without a trial, began firing rifles in gaoi in order to arouse the populace. After wounding two gendarmes, the prisoners committed suicide. Workmen and f students created street disturbances, wounding several gendarmes and compelling the patrol to use their weapons to clear the street. M. Novakovico was offered his liberty if he would cease attacking the Dynasty, but he refused.
