WARRNAMBOOL TO MELBOURNE ROAD RACE.
WON BY A VICTORIAN. By Telegraph—Press Association. Received September 2S, 8.33 p.m. MELBOURNE, September 28. The Warrnambool to Melbourne Road Race resulted as follows: Dobie (Victoria), 42min ... 1 Oaks, (Victoria), 80min ... 2 Willis (Victoria), 60min ... 3 Two hundred and thirty riders started. This constituted a world's record. Dobie won by about a quarter of a mil<\ PARTICULARS OF THE RAGE. Received September 28, 8.33 p.m. MELBOURNE, September 28. The riding conditions for the race were unfavourable. The roads were sloppy, owing to the rain. Nevertheless, some splendid work was done. Dobie, the winner, left Warrnambool at 6.13 in the morning, and reached Melbourne at 1.57 p.m. Oaks was next to finish, about a quarter of a mile behind. Then came Willis. Oaks' time was Bhrs 24min 47sec, and Willis took Bhrs 7min 42sec to do the journey. Larcomb, who was at scratch, made the fastest time, 7hrs 40min lOsec, lowering J. Arnst's record by over three minutes. Larcomb finished fifteenth. The second fastest time was put up by Birch, of New Zealand, who, riding from the 24min mark, completed the course in 7hrs 43| mil?. Received September 29, 4.55 p.m. MELBOURNE, September 29.' Dobie is 6ft 2in in height, and weighs 13 stone. Oaks has only one arm. Larcomb, who rode unpaced from Colac, punctured his tyre near Gealong, causing a delay of ten minutes. A passing cyclist lent him a wheel. It is reported that the "tack fiend" was again in evidence, causing disaster to some of the riders.
