SUSPENSION OF J. A. M'CULLOUGH.
(By Telegraph- Parliamentary Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, September 27. In the House, this afternoon, in replying to Mr H. G. Ell, Christchurch South, the Premier admitted that Mr J. A. McCulloguh, of the Ghristchurch Workshops, had been suspended and called upon to say why he should not be dismissed for taking part in a political movement and moving a resolution adverse to the Goverrment. Sir Joseph Ward explained that the same attitude would have b':en taken if the motion had been in favour of the Government. This was in accordance with the regulations, and the only alternative was to repeal the- regulations, as it was impossible to nrjake '.'fish of one and flesh of another." Duty had been clone in this case without the slightest political feeling. „&s to what decision the Government would come to he could not say, but if Parliament desired to give freedom to Civil Servants in matters political it would take the responsibility off the Government. In the meantime the regulations would be carried out.
A PROTEST. By Telegraph —Press Association. WELLINGTON, September 27. The Independent Political Labour League passed a resolution, to-night, protesting against the [action'of the Government in suspending Mr McCullough from the railway service.
