POLICE AND COOLIES.
A .RIOT ON THE RAND. POLICE USE FIREARMS. FIFTEEN COOLIES WOUNDED. Received September 27, 8.55 a.m. PRETORIA, September 26. There is trouble at the Witwatersrand Deep Mine, and police intervention was found to be necessary. It appears that coolies employed ion the mine were at the bottom of the affair. Those who are about to be repatriated showed reluctance to make up time lost through unauthorised absence, and the result was a riot. The police used firearms, fifteen of Ihe'coolies being wounded.
