THE GLENAHIRA OUTRAGE.

LORD ASHTOWN'S CLAIM FOR COMPENSATION. Received September 24, 7.42 a.m. LONDON, September 23. Lord Ashtown's claim for compensation in connection with the Glenahira outrage, is proceeding at the Dugarvau sessions. The defence implies that Lord Ash • town or a servant or servants, with Lord Ashtown's connivance, committed the outrage, in order to sustain statements contained in Lord Ashtown's publication "Grievances from Ireland." Mr Lloyd, a British Inspector of Explosives, considered that the window and shutters were open when the bomb exploded. Other witnesses were strongly of the opposite opinion.

LORD ASHTOWN AWARDED £l4O DAMAGES. Received September 24, 10.11 p.m. LONDON, September 24. In connection with Lord Ashtown's claim against the County of Waterford, Judge Fitzgerald found that the explosion was a malicious outrage, and that there was no foundation for the allegation made by the defence against Lord Ashtown. He awarded him £l4O carnages. (About 2 a.m. on August 14th a daring attempt was made to wreck Glenahira Lodge, Lord Ashtown's shooting seat in the Co. Waterford, through the agency of gunpowder, and to burn the place with paraffin oil. Lord Ashtown was staying in the lodge with James Graham, his head gamekeeper, the other occupants of the house being Graham's wife and two maids. At about 2 o'clock he was awakened by a terrific explosion. The noise of falling timber and breaking c-lass caused him to ju;np out of bed and to rush to the landing, where he met Graham, who had also been aroused. Together Lord Ashtown and Graham made their way downstairs to the drawing room, which they discovered in flames. Water was procured and thrown on the fire, and it was extinguished within five minutes.)
