AUSTRALIAN PREFERENCE.
Received September 24, 8.55 a.m. LONDON, September 23. Senator Pulsford, in a letter published in The Times, states that_ if preference by Australia is effective in decreasing foreign shipments there, it must inevitably be effective in increasing them to the United Kingdom, as it would act as a bounty. Received September 24, 7.42 a.m. LONDON, September 23. The United Kingdom Commercial Travellers' Associations' Central Board, at the annual meeting at Preston, adopted a resolution expressing regret at the Commonwealth tariff, predicting disastrou ? effects to many of the Motherland industries, and adding that if preference were allowed it would have no practical effect on the development of British industries.
