After a witness had testified that the Goolds invited Mrs Levin to tea, Goold retracted his former story, and confessed that his wife held Mrs Levin's wrists while he stabbed her. Mrs Goold ejaculated: "This man is mad! He does not know what he is sayirg." She, being further questioned, sobbingly admitted that she had helped to cut up the body and pack the pieces in the trunks, but denied participation in the murder.
