RIFLE CLUBS AND CHEAP AMMUNITION.
(By Telegraph—Parliamentary Co> respondent.) WELLINGTON, September 18. The Acting-Minister of Defence (Hon. R. McNab) was asked in the House, this afternoon, by Mr H. J. H. Okey, member for Taranaki, whether he will, in order to encourage rifle-practice in the country districts, make such arrangements as will insure rifle clubs getting their ammunition at the cheapest rates? Every facility is afforded rifle clubs, both defence and private, replied the Minister, in obtaining ammunition at the same price as is charged to volunteers. Efficient members of defence rifle clubs are also allowed to purchase 100 rounds of ammunition per annum at the very Jow rate of os per hundred. The present bare cost at the factory is £5 8s 4d per 1,00? rounds, and the present sale price to volunteers and rifle clubs is £5 10s per 1,000 rounds. It is not considered advisable to make any further reduction in price.
