A FAST DESTROYER. Received September 17, 10.55 p.m. BERLIN, September 17. A German destroyer, built at Krupp's yards, Kiel, attained a speed of 33.9 knots. This destroyer is the fastest afloat. SHARP ENGAGEMENTS. Received September 17, 9.18 p.m. LISBON, September 17. Advice has been received that after four sharp engagements against the Cuamatas, the Portuguese West African column has reached Hamequero. Eight Portuguese were killed and 21 wounded.
CRUSHED BY A MOTOR-CAR. Received September 17, 8.28 a.m. LONDON, September 16. During a motor-ear race at Brooklands, in Cheshire, a Minerva car, driven by Vincent Herman, overturned, fatally crushing him.
