(It was stated that the Gloucester electorate had just squeezed nolicense through.)
FIRE ON A STEAMER. Received September 17, 9.56 a.m. NEWCASTLE, September 17. The steamer Oceana has arrived from British Columbia. There was a fire amongst the coal in the port bunkers. It had been smouldering since August 10th, but was kept well under, and extinguished on the vessel's arrival here. BUTTER- FREIGHTS. Received September 17, 9.56 a.m. SYDNEY, September 17. A conferer.ce of inter-State representatives of the butter exporting trade accepted the Federal Houlder Shire line's offer to carry butter to London for one shilling and tenpence per box, the contract to be for twelve months. A BIG NUGGET. Received September 18, 12.45 a.m. MELBOURNE, September 17. , A one hundred and five ounce nugget has been found at Posiedon.
