NAPIER, September 16. : The New Zealand Golf Club's 1 Championship Meeting was concluded, • to-day, when the final of the Amateur I Championship of New Zealand was ■ played between A. Duncan and H. B. » Lusk. • FIRST ROUND. i The play of both for the first nine • holes wus good, but Lusk was de- ; ficient in putting, while Duncan was very effective on the green. The first hole was halved, and Duncan won the second and third. In the next Duncan got into the mud, and lost the hole. The fifth was halved; the sixth went to Duncan by one ] stroke, and Lusk won the seventh. . after Duncan had lost a good stroke \ owing to moving his ball with his; hand in order to remove an obstacle.. The eighth and ninth holes were; halved, Duncan being then 1 up. Each did the nine holes in 44. The tenth and eleventh holes were won by Duncan, and the twelfth was halved. The result was the same at the thirteenth* and fourteenth holes. Duncan won the fifteenth by one stroke, and did to sixteenth in 3 to Lusk's 4.. Going to the seventeenth hole Duncan made a bad second, but approached on the green in 3 and holed in 4, Lusk missing his putt and taking 5. By a fine drive and second Duncan found the eighteenth green. Lusk hit a tree and took 3 to the green. Duncan took 4 to putt and Lusk 5, the former thus winning the round by 8 out of the 16 holes. Duncan completed the last 9 holes in 78, doing the round in 81, Lusk taking 86. Duncan played up to his best form, his putting in particular being very fine. The following are the figures for the 16 holes, Duncan's score being indicated first:—6—6, 3-4,4—5,6-5, 4—4, 4—5, 7—6, 5—5, 4—4, 4—5, 5—6, 5—5, 3—4, 4-4, 5-6, 3-4, 4—5, 4-5. SECOND ROUND. The second half of the final was played in a heavy shower. The first two holes were halved in 4. Duncan won the third in 4, Lusk taking 5. The fourth was won by Lusk in the putt. At the fifth both were on the ■ green in 2, and each took 2 to putt, the hole being halved. The sixth also was halved. In the seventh Lusk got on to the road, but reached the green in 3. He missed his putt, and Duncan won by sto 6. At the eighth hole each player took 5 ard the hole was halved. At the ninth Duncan played in 3 and Lusk 4. Duncan thus won the match and the Amateur Championship of New Zealand by 10 up and 9 to play. PREVIOUS WINNERS. Kelly, of Auckland, won the putting competition, with a score of 19. Duncan's performance at this meeting constitutes a record which will probably remain unequalled for a long time, he having won the Amateur and Open Championships of New Zealand, the Amateur Bogey Handicap, and being fourth in the Medal Handicap. ; His play throughout the meeting has shown remarkable brilliancy and consistency.
