GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING.

By Telegraph—Press Association. NAPIER, September 14. At the Golf Championship Meeting, to-day, the semi-final round of the New Zealand Amateur Championship was played. 11. B. Lusk beat H. D. Bamford, 4 up and 3 to play ; A. Duncan beat H. C. Smith, 5 up and 3 to play. Both the losers were palpably nervous at starting, but Smith improved considerably as the game progressed and played capital golf. Duncan, however, was too good, doing the first nine holes in 38.

In the Foursomes, Dr. Bernan and V. E. Kettle won with a net score of 81, G. M. Morris and E. R. Dymock being second with 84, and W. T. Peacock and 11. Peacock third with 85.

In the mateeur Championship cf New Zealand in the round between Lusk and Bamford, the latter was evidently very nervous, and Luslc got away at the start, and maintained his lead throughout. When Arthur Duncan and 11. C. Smith took their places there was a small thrill of excitement amongst the specators to see how the latter would sbqpe against liis redoubtable opponent. Smith himself was manifestly nervous, and at the start played below his form, and lost the first four holes. He then pulled himself together, and halved the next three holes, and won the two following' holes in good style. Then, one hole was halved. Duncan got the iie::t two. Then Smith got one, Duncan one, and the fifteenth was halved, this leaving Duncan five up and three to play. Had Smith played from the start as he did towards the latter part of the round it would have been a really good game. As showing Duncan's great consistency, it may be mentioned that he did the fir3t nine holes in 38, this being proportionately equal to his record breaking score. At this tournament Duncan stands out on his own, and it is considered by many that his play is unequalled in the colony. Amateur Championship of New Zealand. — Semi-final: H. B. Lusk beat H. D.
