VARIOUS CABLES.
A LAND BILL. Received September 13, 8.14 p.m. DURBAN, September 13. The Assembly read a second time a Land Bill taxing unimproved values a penny in the pound.
NEW CALEDONIA. Received September 13, 10.47 a.m. SYDNEY, September 13. A petition is being signed in New Caledonia urging the French Government to hand over the island to Groat Britain. Tha petitioners believe that if the island was under England it would soon acquire autonomy. The paper Franca Australe ridicules the petition, but warns France that she has crushed the dependency by impests beyond its resources, and may lose her 'denies, as Spam did.
SALVING A FLEET. Received September 13, 8.29 a.m. ATHENS, September 19. The Greek Government has granted a London syndicate a concession to saive the fleet sunk at the Battle of Navarino. It is hoprd that a million and a half pounds in treasure will be recovered. (The Battle of Navarino was fought on October 20th, 1827. The British, Russian, and French fleets, united for the protection of Greece, entering the harbour of Navarino, under the command of the English Admiral Codrington, annihilated the Turkish-Egyptian fleet.)
A BIG BEQUEST. Received September 13, 7.22 a.m. LONDON, September 12. Archibald Blount, of Orleton, Her - fordshire, out of a fortune of £93,514, bequeathed £BO,OOO to Yale University. It do°s not appear that Mr Blount bad any connection with Yale.
