AUCKLAND, September 12. Mr D. Gallaher has chosen the following team to represent Auckland against Wanganui for the Ranfurly Shield:—Fullback, Miller; threequarters, Murray, Gillet, Asher; fiveeighth, Magee; half, Kiernan; wings, McDonald and Hall; forwards, Tyler, Herring, Francis. Cunningham, Hayward, and Seeling. It will be seen that only eight of the touring team have been chosen.
The match arrangements of the New Zealand "Pro-Blacks" in England provide that 70 per cent, of the gates, with a minimum of £SO for a mid-week and £IOO for a Saturday game, shall go to them. The minimum has already been paid by the clubs, which desire fixtures, and the amount which lies to the credit of the tourists is £3,000. Two Welsh clubs—Merthyr and Ebbw Vale—have joined the Northern Union, and it is expected that they will soon be followed by several others, It is proposed to form a Welsh League for the coming season. Says the Athletic News: "With tie fillip which the New Zealanders will give the game this year, the possibilities of making an attractive list of matches, with even an International struggle in Wales, comes within che realms of the accessible."
