CARTERTON.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
Thursday. The fortnightly meeting of the Methodist Christian Endeavour Society was held, on Wednesday evening. Mr D. T. King presided. An interesting address was delivered by Mr King. Mr W. Stevens and Miss Nellie Glanville were appointed delegates to represent the Society at the Christian Endeavour Conference to be held at Wellington at the latter end of this month. The annual ball of the Rover Football Club, which is to be held shortly, promises to be a decided success. In connection with the railway ball, to be held here on October 3rd, special trains will run from Cross Creek and Masterton. The stop-bank which is being erected at Kokotau is almost completed. Several other important works in the County will shortly be commenced.
Mr T. Mcßae, for some time clerk to Mr Coleman Phillips, solicitor, has been appointed to a clerkship in the City Council office, Christchurch. Rev. A. E. Aston, formerly relieving teacher at the local State School, and latterly of the Otaki School, has been appointed by the Education Board to be sole teacher at Coonoor. At the time of writing heavy rain is falling, and if it continues floods may be expected. Bro. J. M. N'icholls, P.C.R., presided at the fortnightly meeting of Court Marquis of Nonranby, A.0.F., held in the Foresters' Hall last evening. A communication received from the M*sterton Lodge expressing a wish to visit the Carterton Brethren was held over until next meeting. The following is the report of the directors of the Wairarapa Terminating Building Society. The second annual balance-sheet is presented to you herewith, showing a credit of profit and loss of £CI 12s 4d. At the date of balancing there were still a number of shares which were subject to forfeiture, and of these some have been cancelled to make room for new paying shareholders. During the year covered there were four appropriation two by sale and two by ballet. Tli3 two appropriations sold realised £llO. There bad been considerable delay in the issue of the balance-sheet, for many shareholders do not yet see the advantage to them in sending their pass-books promptly to the auditors for checking, and there was also a change of secretary during the year, and a new set of books to enter up before the auditors could complete.
