THE MONTE CARLO SENSATION.
Received September 12, t\ss p.m. MONTE CARLO, September 12. There were dramatic scenes at Goold's flat, Monte Carlo, whither the prisoners were conducted. Mrs Goold, when confronted with the saws and other articles used in dismembering Mrs Levin's body, repeatedly exclaimed "I am innocent; I fainted and know nothing. My husband did it all." She flatly contradicted all the witnesses. Vere Goold, who was calm and collected, declared contrary to his wife's allegations that Mrs Levin was invited to the villa. Both advanced to welcome her, offering her liquor. He brought a tray which his wife held out to Mrs Levin, while he struck her. When the victim was dead they dragged her body into the box room. In trying to clear his wife Goold stated that she entered while he was finishing the work. When the Magistrate questioned Mrs Goold regarding the discrepancies between her evidence and that cf her husband's, she tried to intimidate the JMagistrate,'exclaiming, "I will have England claim me." A crowd outside, after the examination, broke through the line of carabineers, and pursued the prisoners' carriage, threatenirg to lynch them.
