EXHIBITION PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITIONS.
(tsy Telegraph —Parliamentary Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Mr W. T. Jennings (Egmont) asked the Minister of Education, in the House this afternoon, whether he is aware that successful competitors in the photographic section of the New Zealand InternationalJExhibition have not received the prizes, consisting of medals and certificates, as published -on the circular issued by the committee? The general manager, when written- lo on the subject, repilcd that he had nothing to do with the section, and could give no information. The home industries section had, been given gold and silver medals, but he did no f . know what had been done in other sections. The Hon. Mr Fowlds replied:—The following is the only clause relative to prizes in the circulars issued by the Photographic Committee: "Prizes. —Three prizes consisting of medals and certificates will be given to each class . provided a sufficient number of entries is received." The entries were very disappointing The Photographic Committee applied for and was allotted 400 ft of free space, of which 350 ft was not used, and was abandoned. Three thousand entry forms were printed, but only 146 were used. The Photographic Committee was .granted twentyeight silver and a like number of bronze medals for photographic exhibits, and fifty each of gold, silver, and bronze medals for the monthly competitions. The monthly competitions were abandoned because only three entries were received for the first competition.
