AN EXTRAORDINARY CASE.

By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, September 11. Speaking on the subject of Hospital and Charitable Aid Board expenditure at a meeting of the Parnell Borough Council, Mr J. R. Lundon said that a case had come under his notice of a family receiving assistance from the board. The husband was earning good money, yet his family had cost the country £460. They had been kept by the board since 1888. No less than £1 a week had been paid by the board for the children, »nd these people, despite the earning powers of the head of the family, were still on its books. There is likely to be an enquiry into the whole question of the board's administration.
