PAIRAU SWAMP ROAD.

. *» AN OPAKI PETITION. At the meeting of the Finance Committee of the Masterton County Council, yesterday, a memorial was received from twenty-eight ratepayers in the Opaki riding asking the Council to take immediate steps to put tne Pairau Swamp' Road into a state of repair, and suggesting that £l5O should be spent out of rates in this direction, providing a Govei-n----ment subsidy for an equal amount could be obtained. It was resolved to recommend the Council to give favourable consideration to the memorial provided a Government grant is made available, and that copies of the memorial be sent to° the members of Parliament for Masterton and Wairarapa, wilh a request that they will urge the Government >o place a sum of £l5O on the Estimates for the purpose mentioned. The recommendation was adopted by the Council at its meeting in the afternoon.
