NEW ZEALAND GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS.
By Telegraph—Press Association. NAPIER, September 10. The New Zealand Golf Championship meeting was commenced to-day. The number of competitors is the largest which has ever taken part in j a golf meeting in the coljny. The first round of the Amateur Championship of New Zealand, the winners' were:- Messrs Chettie, Dargaville, Karanena, Treweek, Coiback, Gillies, Fisher, K. Duncan, W. G. Wood, A. Duncan, Kapi Tareha, Armstrong, Coatee, Harold Bennett, Paere Keiha, Cox, Handyside, Dymock. Wright, Kennedy, Knight, J. C. Bidwill, B, B. Wood, Kettle, Cato, Peacock and Lusk. The teams match for the Williams Cup was won for the second year in succession by the Napier team, the score being 348. The other scores were:—Chiistchurch A team 358, Wellington A 'team 363, Dunedin team 370, Christchurch B team 378, Auckland team 381. In the Amateur Championship of Hawko's Bay, ana the .Open Championship of New Zealand, which were taken together, the folio wing are the leading scores' in t the first round:—David Hood 80, J. C. Bidwill 80, McLaren 82, Herd, Thorburn, Kurupo Tareha, each 83, J. Hood, Johnston, H. B. Lusk, B. C. Rutherford, B. B. Wood, each 87, Handvside 88, H. E. Wright, A. H. Fisher, each 89, Colbeck, H. C Smith, Ritchie, each 91, Treweek, Harman, Chettie, Barraud, each 92, Marshall. Bennett, each 93, Harold Turnbull, A. E. Bidwill, Saunders, each 94.
