THE NIGHTCAPS SENSATION.
DEATH OF REID. By Telegraph—Press Association. INVERCARGILL, September 9. Henry Reid, who shot Lydia Gibbon in a fit of jealousy, died on Sunday night. The girl has recovered consciousness, and though her mind is a blank regarding the tragic occurrence, there is every hope that she will make a good recovery. (This sensational shooting case occurred at Nightcaps at 11 o'clock, last Tuesday night, when Henry Reid, a miner, 22 years of age, from Tasmania, shot Lydia Gibbon, aged 22 years, with whose parents he lodged. Reid then attempted to commit suicide. Reid had beeirpaying attentions to Miss Gibbon, who discouraged him, as she was engaged to another man. The two sat talking in the kitchen, and after all had retired shots were heard. The girl was found lying in a pool of blood, with a bullet wound in her head. Reid was discovered down a well with a bullat wound in his palate).
