MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

SPECIAL MEETING. A special meeting of the Master-

ton Borough Council was held, last evening, to deal with various matters. The Mayor (Mr J. M. Coradine) presided, and there were also present—Crs J. H. Pauling, J. Elliott, W. Pragnell, J C. Ewington, A. Haughey, J. Prentice and J. Yarr. The plans submitted by Mr H. C. Robinson at the last meeting of the Council, on behalf of the owners of Kinvig's estate, for the sub-division of the property, were approved of, on condition that a connecting outlet was made to Cornwall Street, that the drainage pipes were pit in, and that all the footpaths were formed, gravelled and kerbed. The Manager of the Abattoir wrote stating that he had received a complaint from a local butcher with regard to the slippery nature of the cattle pens at the abattoir, adding that two beasts had already been injured from this cause. The Manager asked that something might be done to remedy the present state of affairs. After consideration, the Council de cided to instruct - the Engineer to score the concrete in two pens.

Consideration was then given to the re-grading of Queen Street between the Queen's Hotel and the Convent. The Engineer stated that the work would cost about £7OO. Cr Pauling considered that as the cost was so heavy, and funds so short, the footpaths only should be reconstructed at present. On the motion of Cr Ewington, it was decided to instruct the Engineer to rt-form the footpaths from the corner of Renall Street to the Convent and provide for a channel across the road to carry away storm water; the necessary money to be taken out of the contingencies fund of the loan schedule.

It was" resolved, on the motion of Cr Prentice, to invite tenders for a new footpath on the north side of Cornwall Street, the expenditure in this direction not to exceed £IOO.
