HORTICULTURE IN SCHOOLS.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—l was glad to read your paragraph in which Mr J. Studholme, of Coldstream, offers prizes to school children for the best laid out and most attractive school grounds. As a teacher I believe horticulture should play a more prominent part in our schools to what it does. The evidence of progress in the young mind to-day is entirely dependent upon how interesting the teacher makes the subject, and I am sure horticulture should meet the child's interest providing the method of teaching is correctly carried out. May Mr Studholme's effort in this direction be crowned with much success. —I am, etc., J. H. ROBERTS. Alfredton.
