MAURICEVILLE COUNTY COUNCIL.
&§& A special meeting, and also monthly meeting, of the touncil, was held on Saturday, the 24th inst. There were present—Crs F. W. H. Kummer (chairman), H. J. Dagg, C. Churchill Jackson, and C. A. Wall. The Minister of Lands in repiy to the Council's request to transfer two small reserves to Mr Heckler in exchange for a metal pit, wrote offering, if a Reserve Disposal Enabling Bill is introduced this session, to insert a clause to enable such exchange to be made. The Chief Engineer of Railways, in reply to the Council's protest, wrote stating that the charge of £2 for proclamation in connection with transfer of railway land for road purposes, had been made in error. After a good (leal of discussion it was resolved to strike a • general rate of three farthings in the pound for the current year. The new valuation of the County has increased the rateable value by about onefourth. Mr John Anderson, sawmiller, attended the meeting and proposed to assist in re-metalling a section of Mangamahoe Road prior to the timber from his mill being carted over the road, and offering afterwards to maintain this portion of the road free of cost to the Council. It was decided to draw up an agreement accordingly, and instruct the overseer to get the water-tables cleaned and take steps to. get metal from Mr Wrightson's pit.. Instructions were given to get metal patching done on part of the main road, the chairman giving the metal from... his pit at Dreyer's Rock. Accounts amounting i to £99 14s 4d were passed for pay- ' ment.
