AN AUSTRALASIAN GATHERING AT EDINBURGH.

On Thursday . last, the 11th inst. at die Australasian Club, Edinburgh," a number of Australasians, visiting the .Royal Show, of the Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland, held a smoke social, .to which all the members of the,-above named club were invited. .The .Australasian Club is composed principally of medical students from Australia and New Zealand attending ./the local university. About eighty, gentlemen were present, and a,most., enjoyable evening was spent. Toasts galore were proposed and .responded to, and heartily drunk, but ..what struck one most forcibly was .the air of determination and strength of character imparted to .the.gatbDring by so many men being; present,who had faced the problems of the Australian bush and come out successfully. There were men present who .were revisiting their natir/e .heath ..efter a lapse of anything from thirty to fifty years with a well-filled nurs?, and who had ■ventured forth with no asset but hope. Every State of;the Commonwealth and both islands of New Zealand were represented: ..and amongst the most noticeable were:— Messrs Guthrie, Sydney , Msii; Clarke, Agent-General's office.; Douglas, New South Wales; Peppard, Agent - General's office; McKenzie, Sutherland, Crawford, Dr. Cummins, Victoria; Stewart, Agricultural Department; O'Neill, Power, Dr. Mc-' Kenna, Queensland; .Blaci and McAllan, South Australia.-; Dohey, Agent-General's office, £?rockman, Lands Department, West .Australia; Anderson, Tasmania; and;MaFarlane, Hurdley, Johnstoße.Gillanders, Cable, New Zealand. The programme was contributed to by Dr. MeJlenna, and Messrs Guthrie, Johnston, Stewart and Peppard, whilst the meeting was ably presided over by Mr H. Stirdley, New Zealand. So successful was the social that on all sides & was hoped that future similar ; gatherings would take place.
