Received August 29, 11 p.m. MOROCCO, August 29. General Drude commands 6,00© trooDS, including 500 Spaniards. Mulai Hafid, in a letter to the officials and notables at Mazagan, describes Mulai Abdul Azig's policy as ruinous to Morocco, and recalls the fact that when the French temporarily occupied Ujda the Sultan did nothing to obtain their departure and since "then the Casablana incident had occurred. Hafid declares that he will'grant satisfaction to the French for Dr. Mauchamp's murder, and other affairs, and hopes to enter upon food relations with them and all the Powers. He urges the population to remain peaceful. Received August SO, 12J7 a.m. MOROCCO, August 29. Mulai Hafid's letter has been welcomed at Mazagan, where he has been proclaimed Sultan. The former officials have agreed to remain in office. Mulai Hand has ordered all Government arms and ammunition at Mazagan to be despatched to Marakesh.
