PATIENTS' PAYMENTS.
An instructive table is attached to the annual report of the Inspector of hospitals, showing, among other things, the details of the receipts of the various hospitals during the past year. One point about the table is the amount paid by the patients as compared with the total receipts. Taking the four centres first, the figures are:—Auckland — Total receipts, £18,317; payments by patients. £3,275. Christchurch — Total receipts, £14,201; payments by patients, £J,240. WellingtonTotal receipts, £29,008; payments by patients, £2,681. Dunedin—Total receipt?, £17,922; payments by patients, £2,128. Other typical instances are:—Akaroa—Total receipts, £480; payments by patients, £l9. Blenheim Total receipts, £5,533; payments by patients, £436. Dannevirke--Total receipts, £4,020; paymentsfby patients, £7l. Mercury Bay-Total receipts, £1,207; payments by patients, £75. Masterton— Total receipts, £8,645; payments by patients, *£l74. Gisborne—Total receipts, £3,654; payments by patients, £455. South Wairarapa— Total receipts, £2,192; payments by patient?, £193. Westport—Total receipts, £2,206; payments by patients, £2OO.
