CARTERTON.

(Prom Our Own Correspondent.) f •——- Saturday. A meeting of the Carterton United Friendly Societies Sports Committee • was held on Friday evening; Bro. P. Molloy in the chair. The secretary reported a credit balance at the bank of £62 17s sd. It was resolved that the Committee's banking account be transferred to the Post Office Savings Bank. The secretary and chairman were accorded hearty votes of thanks for their past services, and a resolution dissolving the Committee was carried. At Mr T. J. Rathbone's planing mill on Saturday Mr Edward Reading was the recipient of a handsome silver cruet stand from his fellow employees. Mr Reading has decided to relinquish his duties as waggoner to take up another occupation. The presentation was made by Mr T. J. Rathbone. At a meeting of the Rover Football Club held on Friday evening it was decided to wind up the season with a ball, to be held at an early date. A committee comprising Messrs J. McGuinness, W. Spooner, E. Fairbrother, J. Edwards, G. Hall, J. Gayfer, W. Levick and J. Lawrence, were appointed to carry out the arrangements for the function. Messrs C. Fairbrother and N. Mc,Kenzie were appointed joint secretaries. A meeting of the Stewards of the Taratahi-Carterton Racing Club was held in the secretary's rooms, High Street, on Saturday afternoon, when there were present: — Messrs G. Wj Deller (chairman), H. H. Wolters," J. Hodder, H. Judd, L. Nix, W. H. Franks, J. G. Oates; A. R. Bunny, H. McPhee and T. Ray. The programme of events were passed, and the amount offered in stakes was -reported to be £1,235. Mr Uiic Shannon was appointed handicapper -and Mr Angus Keith starter. Mr J. •Shaw was appointed clerk of course, :and Mr T. P. Firman assistant clerk of. scales. Mr W. G. Taylor was appointed honorary veterinary surgeon. It was decided that the privi•leges should be disposed of by tender. It was resolved that a special meeting of Stewards should be called for -Saturday next for the purpose of ro--vising rules and regulations.
