THE DOMITZ EXPLOSION. BERLIN, August lfi. Twelve bodies have been extricated from buildings at Domitz, their death 3 having been caused by the explosion at a dynamite factory. CHOLERA. ST. PETERSBURG, August 16. There are serious outbreaks of cholera in several districts. Thirtysix deaths have been reported from Samara and six from Astrakhan. A. HEAVY FINE, CARACUS, August 16. A Venezuelan Court fined the Bermudez Asphalt Company a million pounds sterling for aiding the Matos revolution. Material damages wiil be assessed later. TELEGRAPHISTS' STRIKE. NEW YORK, August 16. _ The Telegraphists' Union at Chicago hss ordered all commercial telegraphists to strike immediately where contracts with the union have not been signed. CHRISTIAN SCIENCE. NEW YORK, August 16. Three masters in 'unacy have interviewed Mrs Eddy. She talked volubly on such subjects as allopathy, homeopathy and mesmerism. GERMAN SOUTH-WEST AFRICA. CAPETOWN, August 16. The Herero chief Morenga, who, after giving much trouble to the Germans in South-West Africa, was driven into Cape Colony, where he was captured and interned for a period, has, with 400 followers, crossed back into German territory. The Cape police vainly tried to intercept him. Should he return he will be arrested. "THE FIRST GREAT STEP." Received August 18, 4.25 p.m. LONDON, August 17. Mr A. Deakin, in a message to the British merchants through the Times, says that the Federal Government are determined to make preference effective, and regard the present arrangements as only the first great step.
