RECEPTION AT WANGANUI.

WANGANUI, August 16,

William Webb, champion sculler of tha world, met with a warm welcome home to-day. Some thousands of people met him at the railway station, and, led by the Band, escorted, him to Cook's Gardens, where speeches were delivered by the Mayor, and Mr J. T. Hogan, M.H.R., and others.

The Maoris danced hakas and presented Webb with a framed photograph of himself and an illuminated address. The citizens also presented an address. The local school children gave a barometer to Webb, and cutlery to The proceedings were most enthusiastic.

To-night the champion were entertained at a smoke concert.
