THE INGEBORG DISASTER.

By Telegraph—Press Association

DUNEDIN, August 16. While the barque Ingeborg, which was run down and sank by the steamer Arawatta, off Port Stephens, on Wednesday morning, was at Dur.edin, Captain Schmidt told Mr Moller the Danish Consul, that the lad Axel Gottfriedson, who was drowned in the disaster, was well connected in Copenhagen, and that his father was captain of a steamer trading between the. Danish capital and Paykiavik, in Iceland. Just before the Ingeborg left Cattegat for Marseilles, Captain Schmidt received a letter from Captain Gottfriedson, asking him to keep an eye on the lad. The cab'es show how faithfully that trust was executed. The* principal owner of the lost vessel was Mr F. Hein, of Odense, the quaint old capital of Gunen, but Captain Schmidt had an eighth share in her. The vessel was insured for £4,000, the captain's share in the insurance being £6OO. Captain Schmidt's two sisters live three miles out of Copenhagen.
