RAIN-FAKING.

By Telegraph—Press Association. OAMARU, August 12. The Rev. D. C. Bates, Government Meteorologist, arrived in Oampru yesterday to supervise tfye rain-mak-ing experiments'to be made here. MiBates says he had not previously regarded this sort of thing as within his field of investigation, but he has been sent here by the Government to watch experiments from a scientific point of view. He comes not as a rain-maker, but to advise the local committee as to when the conditions may be regarded as favourable, and to report the results of his observations to the Government.
