TURF NOTES. (By Zetland.) THE GRAND MEET- ° ING. The National Meeting will be commenced to-morrow, at Riccarton, and continued on Thursday and Saturday. The gathering is expected to be the most successful ever held by the Club in winter by reason of the large fields and the quality of the various contestants. There will not be a "double" machine at the meeting, and this will be disappointing to a large number of backers throughout the colony who hoped to be enabled to make investments on the Winter Cup and Steeplechase double. The following, which have done good track work at Riccarton during the last few days are suggested as likely to run prominently in their engagements:— Hunters' Hurdles— Makuri and Crispinot. Trial Hurdles— Ability and at. Albert. Jumpers' Flat—Landlock and Lady Hune. Enfield Steeplechase— Deerslayer and Post Haste. Winter Cup—Helen Portland and Idealist. Grand National Steeplechase— Phaetonitis and Evenlode. Hack Handicap Voledia and Strathfillan.
