By Telegraph—Press Association.
Received August 8, 9.23 a.m. SYDNEY, August 8
Prior to his departure, Seeling, interviewed, denied that he was one of the selectors of the New Zealand professional team. The statement was a gross libel. He had been approached in the matter; that was all. They could take his word that the list of professionals cabled from New Zealand was almost entirely wrong. It included six of the team, at present i in Australia. This was not so; there might be perhaps one —no more. The whole of the team had' booked passages for the return to New Zealand. Seeling announces his intention to retire from football for good. He did not intend to take any more risks. The team all suffered in health in Sydney and in Brisbane every member had dengue fever or influenza. After the Rugby Union meeting, last night, the. secretary stated that the Council of the Union was satisfied that there was no suspicion of professionalism attaching to the New South Wales members of the Australian team which plays New Zealand on Saturday next.
A match was played c:i the Masterton Schoolgrounds ye3tc .day afternoon, between the Albion Juniors and a team representing the District High S:hool. The game, which was a fairly even one, resulted in a win for the Albior.s by 5 points to 3 points. Reeves scored a try for the winners, which T. Flaws converted. The School's try was scored by Rigg. Mr F. Jackson was referee. The team to represent Carterton against Red Stars to-morrow will be selected from the followingCrawley, Killop, McKenzie, Thompson, Mason (2), Hall, Judd, Groube, Henderson, Johnson, Bond, Blake, Cadwallader, Merewood, Thomas and Hodge.
