MAJOR CUP COMPETITION
KIA KAHA v. W.F.C.A
The Kia Kaha and Y/.F.C.A. teams met, at Lansdowne, yesterday. Considerable interest was attached to the fixture as it decided who was to be the rumiers-up in the competition. The match was not in any sense a brilliant one, the slippery state of the ground probably accounting for this. Those flashes of brilliancy which have been a prominent feature in the play of both teams during the season, more especially the Kia Kahas, were absent yeesterday. If anything, the Kia Kahas had the best of the game, and on their general form throughout the came their score should have lu-cnlargcr. In the first rpcil th<.
game was fairly even, and on several occasions both teams went near scoring. During this spell Rue and Williams scored for Kia Kaha. The former's goal was a very tricky one. By hitting the ball between his legs he completely outwitted the W.F.C.A. goal-keeper. From a forward rush, Sciimgeour got possession of the ball for the W.F.G.A., ar,d scored a rather easy goal. It was in the second spell that the play of the Kia Kahas showed their superiority. .They were attacking for a considerable time, but only two goals resulted, both of which were hit by Williams. About half-way through the spell Pragnell scored for the W.F.C.A., and towards the end of the term the Kia Kaha backs were caught napping, and Minett scored a lucky goal. There was no further score in the game though within a few minutes of the call of time Hall s.nartly saved a goal by catching the bail above his head as it was going into the net. The final scores were—Kia Kaha 4 goals, W.F.C.A. 3 goals. Mr W. J. Vernon was referee. KNOX v. CARTERTON B. Knox had their fust win of the season, yesterday, when they met and defeated Carterton B, atLansdowne, by 5 goals to nil. Ihe winning team proved themselves too strong for the visitors in every department of the game. The winners' goals were scored by Gray, Bradbury, Berry, Maxwell and Rawson. Mr J. King was referee. The match which was to have been played at Masterton, yesterday, between the Glengarry and Eketahuna teams did not take place owing to the latter Club being unable to send a team to Masterton.
