The town was spared .as much as possible. The Duchayla will land a force also. A Spanish cruiser landed thirty marines. The Spanish battleship Nurn&ncia has left Cadiz for Morocco. The sailors were landed and the Consul demanded the disarming-of all soldiers and br-inging them in chains to the . Consulate. Accordingly the soldiers who had fired on the sailors were led in chains to the Consulate. The Consul warned the Bashaw that these men would be shot if the natives continued to threaten the vicinity. The bombardment was then suspended, but was resumed at the: Bashaw's request owing to the: menacing attitude of the tribesmen on the outskirts. Melinite shells killed iand wounded hundreds.
