MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

FINANCE AND GAS COMMITTEE. The Finance and Gas Committee of the Masterton Borough Council met, last evening, there being presenters F. W. Temple (chairman), J. Elliott, J. C. Ewington and J. Yarr. An application was received from Mr H. Martin to have the gas main extended to a house he was having built on the Opaki Road about three and a half chains distant from the end of the present two inch main. The Gad Manager reported that the 1| inch main that was being taken up from Cole Street could be used in giving a service on the Opaki Road.

It was decided to grant the extension of the gas service to Mr Martin on the usual conditions. The committee adopted the proposal to take a poll of ratepayers to borrow £12,000 for new buildings, manufacturing plant, extensions of mains and services, meters, stoves, and fittings and contingencies for the Gasworks. It was decided to make an annually recurring special rate of 24-64 th of a penny in the £ on the unimproved value of all rateable property in the Borough as security for the interest and sinking fund in connection with the loan. The whole of the loan is to be repayable in 1926, and it is not proposed to pay out of the loan the cost of raising the loan or the first year's interest on the loan.

The Chairman and the Manager were appointed to fix a site for the weighbridge in the Gasworks yard and to get the weighbridge erected. The Town Clerk was instructed to write to Mr D.-Heagerty, of Greytown, stating that the property in Villa Street, of which he denies ownership, still appears in his name on the new valuation roll and to request him to communicate with the Valuer-General to ascertain the ownership of the property. Accounts amounting to £336 17s 7d were passed for payment.
