MADAME TERESA CARRENO.

A recital will be given by Madame Carreno at the Masterton Town Hall next Wednesday evening. A contemporary says: —A remarkable thing about Carreno is that her power—that is her capacity for tone-produc-tion—is much greater than that of the average male virtuoso; but, better still, from the musician's point of view, the universality of 'her genius as a player is such that while she can make a tremendous ""tour de force" of Liszt Rhapsody, she is exquisitely tender in her treatment of Chopin, while she excels as an exponent of Beethoven. The popular Australian verdict is certainly not averse to the dictum pronounced by Hans von Bulow on one occasion, that Carreno is "the most interesting pianoforte player of the present age."
