MASTERTON RACING CLUB.

MEETING OF STEWARDS. The monthly meeting of the Stewards of the Masterton Racing Club was held on Saturday afternoon, tiere being present —Messrs C. F. Vallance (chairman), C. A. Pownall, R. Buick, W. Cooper, D. Caselberg, W D. Watson, J. Macara, J- ' Cress, C. H. Smith, A. J. Wekii, and D. McLachlan. An apology for absence was received from Mr W. Piatt. Mr H. Welch was engaged as custodian of the racecourse until after the next race meeting. Hfcf the new rules of racing for each '" Steward and official of the Club. A letter was received from Mr L. G. West, architect, of Palmerston North, stating the terms under which he would be prepared to come to Masterton, inspect the racecourse, and prepare plans and specifications far the general re-adjustment of the buildings and appointments of the racecourse. Mr West stated that he would be prepared to meet the Ground Committee on the course today (Monday). It was decided to accept Mr West's offer as to terms. It was also resolved that the Ground Committee should meet Mr West on the course to-day. The Secretary of the Seddon Memorial Technical School wrote apologising for the deputation not attending at the last meeting of Stewards, when they had given notice to do so. He asked whether the club would be prepared to reopen the question of giving a grant in aid of the new Technical School. It was resolved to give the deputation permission to wait on the Stewards with reference to a grant. It was resolved to invite tenders from the local firms for the club's printing for the ensuing year. On the motion of Mr Pownall, seconded by Mi- Cress, the committee to purchase the bracelets for the forthcoming meeting were instructed to make the purchases with a wholesale jewellery firm. The Programme Committee were recommended to establish a HacK Guineas race of the value of £IOO for present two-year-olds, the first race to be run in October, 1908. Licenses were recommended as follows:—Gentlemen riders: Messrs ! C F. Vallance, W. H. Euick, L. B. , Vallance, and F. B. Vallance. Trainers: Messrs M. McGrath, J. Cress, F. Matthew?, W. Garrett and ' R. Knox. Jockeys: Fred Wood, and Thomas Carroll. Apprentices: F. H. Cress-gS^-"-The following officials and committees were appointed for the year: —Judge. MrW. H.
