,(From Our Own Correspondent.) Saturday. The Borough Council's road grader, which "was used on High Street the -other day, has improved the thorough:fare~SWaG\vhat. The installation of gas has just been completed at St. Mark's Anglican Church and Vicarage. Twentysix lights are required to illuminate the church. .A horse belonging to Mr IvL Jones, whilst grazing in a local resident's paddock, on Thursday evening, fell into a well of considerable depth and .remained there all night. The unfortunate animal was discovered next morning by the owner, who, with the assistance of some neighbours, rescued him from his awkward posi • tion. The Rev. C. Astor, who has been acting as relieving teacher at the local .State school for some two or three .weeks, left on Monday for Otaki -to take up a similar position there. Miss Greaves, a recent arrival from the Old Country, is filling the position in the local school rendered vacant by Mr Astor. The yards at the local railway station are at present receiving a muchdeeded covering of metal. A hard frost was experienced here this morningl- - Jambs are beginning to laake their appearance on several of the farms in and around Carterton. A football match was played on the local reserve this afternoon between teams composed of the bush and millyard emDloyees ,of Messrs W. Booth and Co. After 2:1 interesting and well contested game, the mill-yard team proved victorious by 5 points to 3. A card tournament was played on Friday evening, between members of the Foresters' and Druids' Lodges, when the former Lodge won by two games. A social was afterwards held. %
