MAURICEVILLE COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Council was held on Saturday last. There present —Crs H. J. Dagg, C. C. Jackson, fand F. W. H. Kummer (chairman). Cr Wall was granted .leave of absencs. Correspondence was received from the Minister of Lands stating that the matter of transferring two reserves to Mr J. F. Heckler-in exchange for metal pit will be .enquired into. From the District Railway Engineer "authorising the ranger to impound trespassing live stock on the railway yards at Maurieeville and Mangamahoe, From Mr C. V. Spackmanjjrequesting permission to lower the road drain opposite his property near the railway station. From the Chief Engineer of Railways forwarding plan of railway land allocated for road purposes, with copy of Proclamation, and requesting payment of £2 for the preparation of the Proclamation. Schedules of accrued thirds were forwarded by the Receiver of Land Revenue. It was decided to permit Mr Spackma !to lower the drain as desired, the Chairman being" satisfied that no inj iry would result to the road. T ie charge of £2 made by tne Railway Department for Proclamation was considered unreasonable, seeing that tha Council had only consented to the matter at the urgent request of the Depart nsnt, and no hint had been given to indicate that any charge would be made. It was resolved to hold a special meeting to strike the rates for the cuirent year, provided the Valuation Rolls are available before next ordinary meeting of the Council. Accounts amounting to £372 16s 3d were passed for payment.
