STOCK MARKET.
Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having held a dairy sale at Mr C. Grant's homestead, Hamua, on Thursday, 25th'inst. Very good prices were realised for the time of the year, cows bringing up to £7 Is, average £5 7s 4d. Milk cans and other things brought good value. Also on account of Mr S. Smith, Atea, the whole of his herd of dairy cows, sheep and other things on Friday, July 26th. All the stock were in poor condition, consequently prices were low. Aged ewes in lamb 17s to 19s 2d, cull ewes 10s Bd, hoggets 13s, cows to £4 15s, springing heifers £4 2s 6d to £4 10s, small steers 31s, heifers 245, milk cans to 10s 3d. Mr W. Rose reports as follows: July, in this district, is generally looked upon by stock dealers as one of the worst months in the year, for their business, and this month has proved itself no exception to the rule. Consequently for the past fortnight I have very few sales to report. July 20th, Dannevirke horse sale: —There was a moderate yarding of poor sorts, and very little business eventuated. July 22nd, Norse wood stock sale: —The weather was very bad and several advertised lines did not come forward consequently very little changed hands. July 26th, Dannevirke stock sale: —There was a fair yarding of both sheep and cattle. I also quitted the whole of Mr Walls' dairy herd, for which there was keen competition, the herd averaging about £4 per head. Other lines 1 quote as follows: —Sheep: S.m. ewes in lamb 16s 6d, 16s 3d, 12s 6d, 7s Bd, 2-tooth wethers 16s 3d, fat cows £5 to £4 10s, cows and calves all counted 18s, cows in calf £2 to £3 6s, weaners 6s, a line of over 100 3 and 4-year-old bullocks were passed m at £5.
