The Journal of the Department of Labour for July contains the following Tinui, and Greytown: — MASTERTON. Business in general for the past month has been fairly good, and reports indicate prospects of continuance. Building trades: In all branches extremely busy.. Saddle aud harness making: Modorate. Retail trade: Very fair business in all lines reported. Unskilled labour; During the month there ware several applications for employment. Private employment for one married and four single men was obtained. TINUI. Building trades: Slack; local carpenters have been doing very little "work during the month, on account =of the wet weather. ;; Retail trade has been very slack during the month through the ■bad state of the roads and hooded xivers. Unskilled labour: A few local men have been working about half-time during the month, on account of the wet weather, at road work and scrub cutting, and several local men have been idle. There are severrl contracts of scrub-cutting coming out nowwhich no doubt will give employment to all. Saveral swaggers were seen on the road during the month; a few got employment at scrub-cutting, GREYTOWN. Building trades: Busy. Retail trade: Good; up to the usual s.andard. Unskilled labour: There is ample labour for local men. There has been a good bit of broken time the last few weeks owing to the wet W3ather. There is no demand for outsiders at present.
