SATURDAY HALF-HOLIDAY.
To the Editor. Sir,—-I notice in the report of the Chamber of Commerce that they are advocating the above change. Now, Sir, I don't think I am alone in my view that the above question is a large undertaking, and that it concerns our town on the whole, and that the business men and shopkeepers should have a say. To my mind the above-mentioned body do not represent the majority. Therefore, I would suggest one or two ways of seeing if the change is desired, namely:— (1) By those who are advocating it to take a vote of those in business; (2) or for them to appoint a canvassing committee to get a majority of members of the Chamber of Commerce to consider the question. Then they would be able to obtain the end they have in view, and others would fall into •line. Hoping, Sir, I have not taken up too much of your valuable space. I am, etc., FAIRPLAY. Masterton, July 22nd, 1907. (It is difficult to tell from Fairplay's letter whether he endorses the resolution of the Council of the Chamber of Commerce or otherwise. —Ed. W.A.)
