CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
MONTHLY MEETING.
The monthly meeting of the Council of the : Masterton Chamber of ■Commerce was held yesterday afternoon. There were present:—Messrs J. D. Cruickshank (chairman), G. C- Summerell, J. Caselberg, B. J. Dolan, J. C. Ehvington, F. W. Carey, T. G. Mason, J. Graham, W. B. Apologies for absence were~received from Messrs E. E. Chamberlain, J. B. Keith and H. C. Eobinson. The Treasurer reported a credit balance of £3 If's sd. The Under-Secretary of Justice .notified that the question of erecting a new Police Station in Masterton •.was held in abeyance for the present. A letter was received from the secretary of the -Master ton-Waipuku--urau Railway Leegue stating that an -executive committee of seven had been appointed with Mr John Mclntyre as chairman. The Chamber was .asked to appoint cne member to the .•executive and joijrs the League in a -deputation which it was proposed .should wait on the Minister of Public Works in Wellington. The Chairman said it was not likeJy that the proposed railway would ;be built for years, but there was ,i:ot.hing like keeping the matter before the Government. He was favourable to joining .the League in a deputation to the Minister. Members generally expressed themselves agreeable to the proposal, and Messrs Cruickshank and Ewington ware appointed to represent the Chamber on the deputation to the Minister. The question of rendering financial assistance to the League was held over until a future meeting.
