CLEARING SALE AT OPAKI.
Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having held a most successful clearing sale at Opaki, yesterday, on account of the trustees of the late Hugh Welch. On account of the exceptional quality of the stock it was anticipated that record prices would be realised, and the forecast proved to be correct. The quality, condition and general appearance of the ewes and hoggets was much talked about, and certainly the sheep, all over, were a very fine lot. The first line offered.. 466 4-tooth to f.f.m. ewes in lamb to Lincoln rams, started at 255, and after keen competition were knocked down to Mr Colquhoun (the purchaser of the property) at 29s 6d, a record price for the season for flock crossbred ewes. The next line, 154 ewe hoggets, started at 16s, and bidding rapidly took the price to 18s, after further competition to same buyer took the line at 18s 2d. The line of 146 2-tooth ewes came under the hammer in excellent order, and keen competition vva3 elicited; eventually the same purchaser purchased the line at the record price of 275. Cattle also met a keen demand, and cows brought from 50s to £7 Is, 3-year steers £7, 2-year steers £2 18s, and yearling steers 265. The horses were a serviceable lot, and sold at full rates, the principal sales being Draught mare, 7 years, £36 15s; light harness mare, £ls ss; 3year gelding, £27 53; 2-year gelding, £ls 15s; filly foals, £ll and £lO 15s; colt foal, £l3 ss. Implements, etc., brought full value, double buggies bringing £37 15s ar-d £3O 10s, disc harrows £l3 2s 6J. drill £l9, etc.
